A pip is the smallest standard move in a currency pair's price, usually the fourth decimal (0.0001), or the second decimal (0.01) for pairs quoted in Japanese yen. Pip value is how much one of those moves is worth for your position, and it comes out in the quote currency, the second currency of the pair.
The pip size is 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for yen pairs. Multiply by the contract size (100,000 units for a standard lot) and the number of lots, and you have the value of one pip.
One standard lot of a pair like EUR/USD: 0.0001 × 100,000 × 1 = 10, so each pip is worth about 10 units of the quote currency (here USD). A mini lot is 1 per pip, a micro lot is 0.10. For a yen pair like USD/JPY the pip is 0.01, so a standard lot is 0.01 × 100,000 = 1,000 yen per pip.
Pip value turns price moves into money. Knowing it is what lets you translate a stop-loss in pips into a real loss, which is the basis of position sizing. The chart above shows how quickly the numbers add up: at one standard lot, a 100-pip move is 1,000 in the quote currency.
Pip value feeds straight into risk. Use the position size calculator to turn a pip-based stop into the right lot size, then have the logic built into an Expert Advisor that sizes every trade automatically.

Pip value is how much one pip of price movement is worth for your position. It depends on the pip size, the contract size and how many lots you trade, and it is expressed in the quote currency of the pair, the second currency in the pair.
Pip value equals the pip size times the contract size times the number of lots. The pip size is 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for pairs quoted in Japanese yen. For one standard lot of 100,000 units, that is 0.0001 times 100,000, which is 10 units of the quote currency per pip.
For a standard lot of 100,000 units on a pair quoted to four decimals, one pip is worth about 10 units of the quote currency. A mini lot is worth about 1 and a micro lot about 0.10. For yen pairs the pip is 0.01, so a standard lot is about 1,000 yen per pip.
Because a pip is a move in the price, and the price is expressed in the quote currency, the second currency of the pair. So the value of that move comes out in the quote currency. If your account is in a different currency, convert it at the current exchange rate.
The pip value in the quote currency does not change, but the amount in your account currency does, because it has to be converted at the exchange rate. This calculator gives the value in the quote currency, which you then convert to your account currency if they differ.
